Junior School (Prep – 4)
The Junior School provides an inclusive, safe and supportive environment where all individuals are valued. We teach the students to live by our college values of Community, Achievement, Respect and Lifelong Learning, through a focus on the development of positive relationships with students and engagement with a core group of teachers in the Early Year’s team. This ensures that students new to the junior school settle in quickly and comfortably and can focus on their learning.
Our Early Year’s staff provides a rich learning environment, students work in cooperative groups with hands on activities. Excursions and incursions are linked to and form a valuable part of our program. We strongly value community involvement in our Early Years Program and enjoy having parent/carer helpers. Students have the opportunity to participate in Buddy Programs across the school, including the Early Learning Centre, developing support and friendship networks for all students.
In the Junior School we focus on the development of sound literacy and numeracy skills which underpins all learning.
Our specialist teachers, including secondary trained teachers in science and mathematics, work with our Early Year’s team to create opportunities for practical activities and to develop programs that extend the students’ knowledge and skill base. Special theme days and whole school activities enrich our sense of community and are a valuable source of learning.
‘Learning by doing’ will be a feature of all of our programs and bring learning alive for our students in each stage of schooling. We are moving towards supporting all programs with a technology rich learning environment.
