Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden

Community Support and Partnerships

We are excited to introduce the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program from 2026. Throughout this year, we have continued to enhance our existing vegetable gardens by adding more beds, including Indigenous bush-tucker plants, fruit trees, and a greenhouse. A new chicken coop will follow in Term 1, 2026.

We are grateful to Boronia Rotary for their generous $2,000 contribution, which has supported these developments and the purchase of new gardening tools. We are also pleased to now be part of the Growing Together School Garden Network facilitated by EACH.

About the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation

The Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation is an Australian not-for-profit founded in 2004 by legendary cook Stephanie Alexander AO. Twenty years on, the organisation is still passionate about the health and wellbeing of Australian children and young people by delivering fun, hands-on and inclusive food education across the country. Becoming an endorsed school will provide us with a wealth of curriculum resources and professional learning, adding further rigour and depth to our teaching and learning programs. The Kitchen Garden program will complement our newly announced Youth Skills Shed, and integrate closely with our two modern kitchens and student led café Foot of the Hills.

Connecting the Kitchen Garden to College Programs

Our vision is to connect these facilities to enrich our curriculum and offer students meaningful, hands-on learning experiences. Much like the Skills Shed, the Kitchen Garden program will give students a practical outlet to learn about harvesting food, ecology, and sustainability, which will meaningfully support our units of inquiry and strengthen real-world application across the academic program.

The program will begin as a lunchtime club in 2026 and will gradually become part of our primary specialist offerings. Produce from the garden will also support our secondary Food Studies electives. In addition, our student leadership group is keen to expand the primary FOGO program into the secondary school.
