Technology in Learning

At Boronia K-12 College, we are dedicated to teaching digital literacy and providing students with diverse digital learning tools to inspire creativity, enhance writing skills, and foster personal expression and innovation.

Purposeful Integration of Technology

Our approach to digital learning is intentional and progressive, designed to match the developmental needs of students at each year level. Rather than focusing solely on the technology itself, we emphasize critical assessment of digital tools. This empowers students to select and use appropriate tools—whether digital or non-digital—to extend, transform, and creatively share their learning.

Device and Tool Utilization

  • Foundation to Year 2: Students engage with shared iPads during classroom activities and Specialist sessions. They explore various features of the iPad, such as taking photos and recording, to enhance their learning experiences as well as Learning Apps that allow for targeted learning and differentiation.
  • Years 3-4: Students are provided with a school-networked laptop, stored at school. They learn about cyber safety and use the Office 365 suite of programs to support their classroom activities.
  • Years 5 – 12: In our BYOD program, students and families are responsible for their own laptops, including maintenance and transportation between home and school. Students develop self-management skills and further explore the Office 365 suite for digital learning and applications. Laptops are also used in Specialist classrooms where applicable. To support families, we work with educational technology suppliers that can support the selection of device with added extras such as warranties, accessories and payment options.

Digital Citizenship and Ethical Use

Themes of academic honesty and appropriate technology use are integrated into our units of inquiry, fostering students’ social and moral responsibilities online. Digital citizenship is taught throughout the broader curriculum, emphasizing the importance of a responsible digital footprint and using technology as a tool for creation rather than mere consumption.
