Inclusion

At Boronia K-12 College we are committed to embedding a culturally, socially and academically inclusive education across all school environments.

At Boronia K-12 College we acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture is at least 50,000 years old and the importance of an education system that is alert to the needs of students from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander heritage is crucial for maintaining their rich history and culture. We provide opportunities for our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island students to engage in culturally sensitive activities within the school and acknowledge significant events like Sorry Day, Reconciliation Week and Indigenous Literacy Day.  We include indigenous curriculum resources when planning curriculum.

At Boronia K-12 we believe that all students have the potential to learn and the right to access and participate in a learning environment that is committed to supporting their educational development and genuine participation no matter where they are on the learning continuum. This inclusive model has the learning environment adapt to fit the needs of the learners in it, rather than the learners needing to adapt to fit it. It is our responsibility as a school to make ‘reasonable adjustments’ to accommodate students with disabilities and additional needs. We are committed to the new Disability and Inclusion framework enabling students with disabilities and additional needs to fully participate in their education on the same basis as their peers.
